TEAM SECRET'S run at Stage 1 of VCT Pacific 2024, has come to an end after they were swept by T1 (2-0) during the knockout stage of the mid-season playoff, Friday.
Map one saw Secret try to mount a comeback in T1’s pick of Lotus, ending the half 5-7 despite a horrid start. They would bring the series closer in the second half as they win the eco round and their own gun round. However, T1 would stabilize winning five straight rounds to go up 1-0 in the series.
It was a devastating loss for the Adobo Gang as they collapsed in their map pick Sunset despite a strong 9-3 start. T1 mounted a 10-2 run in the second half of Sunset to seal the win and deny the Filipinos.
“It sucks cause we lost, especially on Sunset because we put up a pretty good fight. It’s similar to the other times (losing) because we feel like a little antsy, or like we overcomplicate things and it’s the final step. Looking to work on that for the second split,” said Team Secret Coach Warbirds after the loss.
“I think we played really bad today, this series because we did a lot of mistakes and errors and we complicated a lot of things which can turn around (the game). Like there’s a round where we can really win a round but we loss because of our…I don’t know of our comms or just not on the same page” added NDG.
With the loss, Team Secret finishes 5th to 6th in Stage 1 with 3 championship points heading into Stage 2.
No international tournament for Team Secret
The loss also meant that the team would miss their third straight international tourney since the start of franchising. For Warbirds, the issues of the current iteration of the squad are vastly different from the previous iterations.
“I think it’s a different issue for each split almost. Last year and even our first kick-off of this year I think it was a lot of nerves. But today we didn’t have a lot of nerves but it's just of kind like a little bit of overheat a little bit of just not on the same page,” he said.
According to the two, the team will be looking to work on their communication and individual skills heading into the second half of the season.
“I think we will work individually and as a team, we will improve on our comms more and make our team have like a good energy since that’s one of the reasons why we are also disrupting a lot of higher teams. And I think we can make it work.” assured NDG.
“In terms of what to look to fix in the future I think it’s just the two things of what we were talking about, making sure we are on the same page with our comms and then also making sure that fixing the little things, our little individual mistakes.” said Warbirds.
