AFTER TWO HEARTBREAKING LOSSES, Team Secret has finally found a much-needed win in the VCT Pacific Stage 1 against Japan’s Zeta Division, 2-1.
Team Secret finally found their grove as they took their map pick in Ice Box taking a quick 5-2 round lead, but almost lost it by the half only up 2 with 7-5 changing sides.
Zeta would equalize at the half after taking the second pistol round and subsequent bonus round, 7-7. But Secret would stabilize themselves by taking four straight rounds and ultimately closing out the opener 13-8.
Zeta would strike back in Map 2 as they wiped Secret’s 5-3 lead in Lotus. Zeta grabbed 8 straight rounds of their own to go ahead 11-5 after the first full buy round of the second half. Team Secret would only find a single round in the second half as Zeta would go away with the 13-6 win to even out the series.
It was Team Secret who once again found themselves ahead in Map 3, Sunset. The Adobo Gang would surprise the Japanese side with a dominant 9-3 half, shutting down Zeta’s defense and retakes.
Zeta did try to mount a comeback in the second half finding a key round thanks to Secret’s misplays and off-positioning, 11-7. Team Secret would close the series out with a great read on Zeta’s slow plant on the A winning their first series 12-7.

Borkum's birthday wish fulfilled
“Overall it was a lot cleaner from us. Our whole for this week is to just clean up those individual plays. There was a little bit of it (misplays), on Lotus I think, our structure was fine but our spacing and trades were not very good, so I think that’s the thing we will look in the next week,” coach Warbirds said in a press conference after their win.
Team Secret’s Controller player BORKUM also revealed that it was his birthday wish for the team to win the series. BORKUM will be celebrating his birthday later in the week.
“I wished that we would get the win so that I would have a birthday gift for myself. And yeah, everyone is happy that we got the W and we just focus on the next,” Borkum said.
With the win, Team Secret joins Gen G as the only two teams in Group Alpha to hold series wins. Team Secret also holds the second seed in Group Alpha with a 1-2 record. With the new format, Team Secret still needs to win another series in their coming games to at least guarantee a spot in the playoffs.
This win also helps the team regain their confidence for the remainder of Stage 1.
“It helps a lot and it helps that it seems no one in our group can win. So yeah, definitely it’s like a stepping stone wherein you take one win and you try to make it a string of wins. I think it’s a boost to our (confidence).” Said Warbirds when about how the win helps.
Team Secret faces Paper Rex on Sunday before ending Week 3 against a resurging Detonation Focus Me (DFM) on Tuesday.
