TEAM Liquid was back to its old dominant ways with back-to-back sweeps over Smart Omega and TNC Pro Team to secure an upper bracket advantage in Week 7 of MPL Philippines Season 17 at Victoria Sports Tower.
The defending champions became the first team to secure an upper bracket slot after hiking their record to 12-1.
Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno and Jaypee “Jaypee” Dela Cruz operated like a well-oiled machine as they led the Cavalry’s stampede over Smart Omega and TNC with veteran poise and MVP-worthy performances.
Locking Down the Barangay
Team Liquid overpowered Smart Omega with a clean 2-0 sweep to kick off its Week 7 campaign, ending the Barangay’s four-match winning streak.
In Game 1, both sides traded blows in the early game, with the Cavalry responding through a two-man takedown on Perkz’s Chou before Sanji’s Pharsa picked off Raizen’s Leomord after securing the 4-minute turtle objective.
Team Liquid PH continued to build momentum through the midgame, taking down Omega’s turrets one by one to gain control of the map and widen the gold lead to as many as 7,000 past the 9-minute mark.
During the 10-minute and 40-second top lane siege, Sanford’s Terizla unleashed a perfectly timed Flicker-Penalty Zone combo that trapped all five Omega members, paving the way for KarlTzy’s game-winning double kill.
KarlTzy’s Harley stole the spotlight with a flawless 6-0-7 KDA, powering Team Liquid to a 1-0 match point over Omega.
Omega looked to bounce back in Game 2 after falling behind early, but Team Liquid stayed firmly in control, not conceding a single death until five minutes in behind KarlTzy’s Suyou and Teddy’s Claude, who both picked up a double kill in a mid lane skirmish.
The decisive play unfolded when Sanji and Jaypee synchronized Yve’s Real World Manipulation with Gatotkaca’s Avatar of the Guardian to eliminate both Jeymz’s Lapu-Lapu and Perkz’s Hylos, enabling the intact Cavalry to capitalize on Omega’s depleted side.
Jaypee earned MVP honors after providing a stable frontline presence with an impressive 0-0-13 KDA and 93% kill participation.
Extinguishing the Phoenix’s Fire
Team Liquid PH decisively swept TNC Pro Team last Saturday, sending the Phoenix Army to their fourth straight loss.
In just less than five minutes, KarlTzy’s Suyou already secured two double kills and one triple kill, helping Team Liquid build an early 10-0 lead and a 5,000-gold advantage in Game 1.
Zaida’s Leomord managed to shut down KarlTzy during the five-minute top lane clash, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap as the Cavalry still secured the final turtle uncontested and maintained map control.
Team Liquid wasted no time in taking its first game win over TNC, with KarlTzy’s Suyou delivering a highlight-worthy triple kill during the final base siege.
KarlTzy was undisputedly the Game 1 MVP after finishing with a stellar 13-1-2 KDA.
Despite TNC putting up a valiant fight in Game 2, the reigning champions kept their momentum rolling and closed out the match in just 10 minutes and 30 seconds, powered by Jaypee’s clutch Flicker-Raging Sandstorm that caught three members and Sanford’s Sora with a double kill.
KarlTzy turned up the heat with Guinevere, finishing with an impeccable 9-0-4 KDA.
