AFTER a long time coming, ONIC and Team Liquid will finally cross paths once more in Week 4 of the MPL Philippines Season 17, reigniting their storied rivalry this Sunday at the Victoria Sports Center in Quezon City.

The Cavalry face their toughest test yet against an on-the-rise Super Family squad, who snapped its losing streak in a big way by sweeping Week 3 and taking solo third with a 3-2 record. ONIC will be looking to be the first team to hand the defending champions their first loss of the season after going 6-0 in the first three weeks.

So they meet again

The long-standing rivalry between ONIC PH and Team Liquid PH resumes in this highly anticipated clash. It’s their first meeting since last year’s MPL Philippines Season 16 upper bracket semifinals where the Super Family was swept 3-0 and dropped to the lower bracket before exiting with a 2-3 loss to TNC Pro Team.

Their rivalry started back in MPL Philippines Season 14, where ONIC PH consistently broke through the Cavalry’s armor, winning 2-1 in Week 2 and 2-0 in Week 5.

In Season 15, the rivalry reached new heights in a dramatic grand finale, where the Cavalry denied the M6 World Champions ONIC PH from getting back-to-back MPL titles.

History appeared to repeat itself last season, with ONIC getting Team Liquid’s number in the regular season following a 2-0 win in Week 1 and a 2-1 win in Week 5.

While Team Liquid ultimately got the last laugh last season as it relegated the Super Family to the lower bracket – resulting in their eventual demise – the Cavalry, for sure, would be hellbent on ending ONIC’s regular season dominance over them.

All eyes on the gold lane

Both teams enter this season with major roster adjustments, particularly in the gold lane, after star players Duane “Kelra” Pillas moved to ONIC Indonesia while Kiel “Oheb” Soriano departed for Honor of Kings to begin a new chapter in his career.
