Caviar "EnDerr" Acampado of Sibol StarCraft II overwhelmed Thomas "Blysk" Kopankiewicz of Singapore to earn the Philippines its third gold medal for esports in the 30th Southeast Asian Games at the Fil-Oil Flying V Center Tuesday.
EnDerr asserted his Zerg mastery over Blysk and the Protoss, as he choked off the latter's resources in a surgical Game 5 win.
He told reporters in the postgame interview, "'Yung di siya makakuha ng fourth base, doon ko na-realize na kailangan ko lang gawin 'yun paulit-ulit. Kasi nawawalan na siya ng resources."
The Filipino player base-rushed out of the gate, erecting a quick 2-0 lead. The opposing army didn't back down, though, and took the third match to avoid a tournament sweep.
Acampado's Zerg units then stole the next game, after a sneak attack in the Singaporean's base disrupted his strategy. The victory proved vital for the Pinoy, as he carried the momentum all the way to the closer.
"Actually, ang pinaka-crucial, important game is 'yung third win ko," he admitted. "Feeling ko kung mananalo ako dun, sobrang laking momentum 'yun, and mas kakabahan siya."
EnDerr's win is also Sibol's first convincing gold medal win, after the respective thrilling finals series of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang last Sunday and Dota 2 the previous night. The StarCraft II victory is also the first individual esports medal for the country.
