Looks like last week's leaks were right: multiplayer first-person shooter Overwatch 2 did get announced today at Blizzcon, developer Blizzard Entertainment's annual celebration of all things Blizz.
If you remember the Pixar-style announcement trailer of the first Overwatch five years ago, this new announcement trailer takes inspiration from another wing of the House That Disney Built. Invasion of a major metropolis by an overwhelming drone force? Bait-and-switch scene of self-sacrifice? Bunch of oddball heroes uniting to protect the world?
Yes, it's the Overwatch-vengers.
Blizzard also showed off some gameplay, including a new hero Sojourn, ways to level up the assorted heroes with new abilities, plus a fun-looking new player-versus-player mode called "Push".
If you're currently playing Overwatch, how will the sequel work? "Current Overwatch players will battle side-by-side with Overwatch 2 players in PvP multiplayer; they’ll also be able to play Overwatch 2 heroes and maps," the developer said in an official statement. Also, any unlocks you've earned in Overwatch will carry over to the sequel.
