AGAINST all odds, Onic PH secured the number one seed even after losing from the heavy favorites, Onic Indonesia.
From the ashes, the Filipino squad mounted a resurgence by stomping two potential surprise packages in Malaysia’s Todak and Brazil’s Keyd Stars.
The other matches in Group B saw surprising results where Onic Esports ended up last after losing to Todak and Keyd Stars. The Indonesian champions could still bounce back in the lower bracket of the playoffs.
Onic Indonesia spoils Onic PH’s victory
Things were looking well for Onic PH as they secured key pickoffs from their Indonesian siblings in the early to mid-stages of the match. Kairi “Kairi” Rayosdelsol became the dominant force at the early stages, punctuated by a 6th minute triple kill.
Though he was bursted down in a 10th minute clash, his teammates Jaylord “Hatred” Gonzales and Mark “Markyyyyy” Ectobanez were able to thwart their Indonesian counterparts, with the former securing another triple kill.
It seemed the Filipinos were destined to prevail, especially when Gerald “Dlarskie” Trinchera, was able to secure key items in the latter stages of the match.
But everything changed in the 19th minute, where Kiboy suddenly landed his Tyrant’s Rage on Kairi and Dlarskie, which led to their shutdown and a come-from-behind victory for the Indonesian champions.
Onic PH avenges their first game collapse against Todak
The Filipinos took their loss against their Indonesian siblings to heart as they avenged their previous defeat by stamping their mark against Todak.
Allen Jedric “Baloyskie” Baloy’s Rafaela proved to be a menace as his movement speed bonus allowed Onic to weaken the Circling Eagle movements from Abd “YumS” Qayyum’s Mathilda.
But his contributions even went beyond that as he allowed his team to mount a surprise with his sudden Holy Baptism from the bushes, leading to Hatred's sudden damage outburst with his Beatrix that earned them some crucial pickoffs.
While Baloyskie and crew were securing kills around the map, Dlarskie’s Esmeralda surprisingly dominated against Wan “4Meyz” Wsman’s Brody.
These factors allowed Onic to gain the momentum needed to win the final clash in the 15th minute.
Onic’s signature split-pushing game dominates the Brazilian upstarts
The group of death lived up to its name when the Brazilian runner ups, Keyd Stars, stunned the Indonesian champions, giving them a chance to secure an upper bracket slot.
But the Filipinos stood in their way, surprising their foes with their signature banana split.
Throughout the match, Keyd Stars were left in a massive dilemma between hunting down Dlarskie or dealing with Onic’s signature 4-man group ups. Choosing the former will allow the other four members to secure an objective while opting for the latter would allow Dlarskie to punish the lanes.
