That's a question that has plagued Omega Empress since the beginning. While the previous attempts have yielded Indonesia's dominance, this MWI 2024 tournament would produce a different outcome.
Finally the Philippines has slain the demons of the past, as Smart Omega Empress secured a comfortable 3-0 victory in the finale over Team Vitality. This serves as the first international victory for Smart Omega Empress.
The entire series was a calculated display from the Filipino squad, with Sheen "Shinoa" Perez bagging the Finals MVP award.
How Omega finally secured the trophy?
Empress' win condition in Game 1 is centered on how they controlled the early game, given their lineup featuring Nolan and Zhuxin. They managed to do so as they secured every lane from the get go. Team Vitality struggled to find any engagements especially with that Lolita pick from Mery "Meraaay" Christine Vivero.
From the start all the way to the end, the Empress set the standard especially with Venny "Fumi" Lim nerfed in Game 1 since his heroes were banned.
The same outcome occurred in Game 2 where Vitality couldn't find any room to engage, though they managed to slowly turn the tides in the following game.
Desperate to keep their dynasty alive, Vitality secured key plays, which forced the game to reach all the way to the 25th minute.
But in the end, it was the Empress who showed their might as their macro game reigned supreme. With their victory, the Empress will bring home $180,000 (Php10,000,000).
