LESS THAN A YEAR since it was launched, Respawn Entertainment announced it would be shutting down Apex Legends Mobile’s servers.
According to a tweet posted by Respawn Entertainment, the reason for pulling the plug was due to the inability to maintain the high-quality experience players deserved.
The developers further explained the decision in a blog posted on the Apex Legends website.
“Following a strong start, the content pipeline for Apex Legends Mobile has begun to fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence. It is for this reason, after months of working with our development partner, that we have made the mutual decision to sunset our mobile game,” the post said.
The server shutdown will be on May 1, 2023, players can still play the game until then. The shutdown comes mere days away from the game’s first anniversary on May 17, 2023.
Apex Legends Mobile was developed by Respawn Entertainment and Tencent’s Lightspeed and Quantum Studios.
Respawn already had plans to further develop Apex Legends Mobile including launching Legends to the mobile version first prior to the main Apex Legends games on PC and Console.
Despite sunsetting Apex Legends mobile’s demise, Respawn is not closing its doors on the platform.
“Respawn and the Apex Legends team remain excited about mobile as a platform and look forward to new opportunities to serve players there in the future,” the post said.
