“DISAPPOINTING.”
These were the words of Em “Kaisaya” Dangla regarding the growing turmoil within esports.
It was one week ago that the shoutcaster and pro player revealed an incident of alleged harassment from a fellow caster. Since then, she has witnessed how her story has rocked the industry — and from her point of view, she is disappointed about how it’s all turned out.
“This currently existing issue could make or break this industry. If we solve it — we grow and improve. If we let it be and save our faces — we are stuck in a limbo,” she said in a public Facebook post.
At the beginning of the post, she had noted that Philippine esports was still in its “starting stage,” but that this controversy has shown that “some people/organization[s] are not willing to make a stand or live by the stands [they have announced].”
She did not name any specific team or organization in her post.
Dangla said that she is also ready to leave the scene “should this continue to become an ugly space of injustice and low morale.”
“I will be a living testimony as to how ugly it is to stay in this space that is full of greed,” she said.
In an interview with Spin.ph, Dangla clarified that she would only leave esports “if yung mga organizations na nag-announce na they want to provide a safe working space ay hindi tinutupad kung ano sinasabi nila.”
We also reached out to Games and Amusement Board head Baham Mitra — whose agency regulates professional sports within the country — about the issue. “We are waiting for a letter of complaint,” said Mitra in a short text message.
