FOR THE first time in eight years, John Cena graces the cover of the WWE 2K franchise. But if you’re expecting to take control of the 16-time world champ in the game’s Showcase mode, expect a little twist: You’ll be playing John Cena’s opponents.
That means that each of the 14 historical matches in Showcase features a match that John Cena actually loses. It’s an intentional thematic choice for the game devs, who wanted to highlight the WWE superstar’s “never give up” attitude.

“It is a pleasure to tell the story of my career through the WWE 2K23 Showcase,” said John Cena in a statement. He’ll be narrating the entire game mode to create what developer Visual Concepts is calling an “interactive sports documentary”, where live-action footage will transition into gameplay.
Something else that’s new for the WWE 2K franchise? WarGames matches, which feature two rings set side-by-side, with a steel cage around them.
Rapper Bad Bunny will also be available as a playable character, though you can only snap him up if you’ve pre-ordered the game.
In true 2K style, there will be multiple editions of the game, all with John Cena’s mug: the Standard Edition, the Cross-Gen Edition, the Deluxe Edition, and the Icon Edition. Each edition adds season passes, unique characters, and cards for the MyFaction and MyRise game modes.
The game will drop on March 17.
