WHILE its sweaty teaser trailer may have featured Zion Williamson, Portland Trailer Blazers point guard Damian Lillard has been revealed as a NBA 2K21 cover athlete.
We say "a" and not "the,' because Lillard will only be one of three cover athletes for the upcoming video game.
“Introducing our cover athlete for Current Gen,” said the official NBA 2K21 Twitter account.
"Current Gen" refers to the present crop of game systems out now, including PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows PC, and Google Stadia.
In an exclusive interview, Damian Lillard told journalist Shams Charania: “It means a lot. It’s one of those things that is like a signature shoe. Everyone just don’t get it. To be able to join the line of players that has been in 2K, it’s an honor.”
NBA 2K will be revealing the next two cover athletes tomorrow and Thursday. The second cover will presumably be for the “Next Gen” series of systems, including the PS5 and the Xbox One Series X, which will be released late this year.
The third cover will likely be a "Legends" or a deluxe edition of NBA 2K21.
Internet speculation has Zion Williamson and the late Kobe Bryant as the next two cover reveals, but we'll see very soon.
Dame is the first Blazer to make it into the video game cover.
