Wise shrugs off finals MVP talk: 'Basta nananalo as a team, yun ang importante'

BLACKLIST INTERNATIONAL has made a ton of history in Season 10, from being the first team to reach the M4 World Championship stage, the first three-time champion, and the first team to boast four MVPs in one season.

And speaking of MVPs, the team could’ve gotten another MVP winner as Danerie James “Wise” Del Rosario had an impressive series. With his unorthodox selection of jungle heroes such as Guinevere and Valentina, Wise was able to cause a lot of havoc in ECHO’s gameplan.

In fact, as the tension increased on the finals MVP announcement, fans were screaming for Wise’s name to be called by Mara Aquino. But things reached an interesting turn as Edward “Edward” Jay Dapadap was heralded as the finals MVP for Season 10.

No one can deny that Edward had a major impact due to his Benedetta play, but one can also argue that Wise was certainly worthy of the finals MVP award.

While this could’ve affected Wise’s mood, the recently heralded Hall of Legend inductee revealed that he wasn’t fazed with the decision.

In fact, he joked about the situation.

“Personally, hindi ako nasasaktan. Kanina noong nag-champion kami, sinisigaw nila yung, ‘Wise!’ [...] Tapos sabi ko, ‘Huwag niyong pangunahan baka hindi ako yung mag-MVP baka masaktan lang ako!'” he recalled.

“Kung rookie year ko pa, syempre gusto ko yung mag-MVP ako. Kaso nandito na ako sa panahon na kahit hindi ako mag-MVP basta nananalo kami as a team yun yung mas importante. Ang nanghihinayang talaga ako yung pera na makukuha sa MVP (laughs) kaysa doon sa title.”

The crucial Benedetta pick was Wise's idea

If there's one moment in the finals that could further push for Wise's MVP discussion, it would have to be his decision to strategically select Benedetta.

The move paid dividends as it forced ECHO PH into a major dilemma. Edward revealed that it was Wise who made the decision that ultimately shifted the tides after being down 2-1. With his Benedetta, Edward was able to cause a major confusion in the Orcas' ranks due to his wave clearing and surprise entrances.

“For me [ang] MVP talaga dito si Wise e kase siya yung nag-suggest ng Benedetta pick and na-execute ng maayos and ayun nagtuloy-tuloy na," said the S10 finals MVP.

While many would see Johnmar "OhMyV33nus" Villaluna as the brain behind Blacklist's success, V33nus herself admitted that Wise was the brilliant mind behind the Benedetta pick.

"Pero for me one of the biggest reason kung bakit kami naka-comeback noong game number 4 is yung ano yung isang bagay na si Wise lang ang nakakita. Even ako or yung ibang players, even yung mga analysts and coaches namin may hindi nakita na bagay na iyon and ayun yung sinabi ni Wise na, ‘I-high pick natin yung Benedetta and then i-sacrifice natin yung hero ko,'" said the Blacklist shotcaller.

"Kase sa lahat ng preparations namin, plano talaga namin na kunin yung mga hero ni Wise. Pero bigla na lang sinabi ni Wise na ‘I-high pick na natin hero ni Edward and then ako na magiging sacrifice, and yung sacrifice na iyon yung sobrang importanteng bagay kung bakit kami nag-champion ngayon."

With such high praises, Wise felt gratified to see the deep trust that his teammates have for him.

"Boss Tryke coach na lang ako next season ah!" he joked.

On a more serious note, the jungler added, "Syempre nakaka-overwhelm kase tinitingala ko talaga si V33 as syempre yung brilliant mind pagdating sa drafting. Tapos triny kong i-express yung nararamdaman ko kasi player din ako, so nararamdaman ko yung sa mga hero, tapos in-express ko lang tapos nag-G naman sila."

      Wise as M4 MVP?

Perhaps Edward's MVP award was all planned to pave the way for a more prestigious outcome. Would Wise be crowned as MVP in the upcoming M4 world championships in Jakarta? He did hint of winning the award in the world stage.

“Pero deserve talaga ng [MVP award ang] ka-team ko. Lahat kami nagsha-shine dito pero may kanya-kanyang timeline. Baka sa M4 ibigay sa akin. Mali ako sa pagkasabi e. Sabi ko kase M4 e yung sa video,” said the Blacklist jungler.

And for fans who have been amazed with his unorthodox picks, Wise has a message for them: "May ipa-patch si MOONTON na kakaabangan niyo talaga, tingin ko ipapasok ko iyon."
