TEAM Liquid PH proved immovable atop the standings, finishing the MPL Philippines Season 17 regular season in the same way it finished Week 1 – as the league’s top team.
This comes after sweeping rival ONIC Philippines to end the regular season with a 13-1 record last Sunday at the Victoria Sports Tower.
Heading into the playoffs, Team Liquid PH’s three-peat pursuit looks promising after securing an upper bracket slot, giving the Cavalry a crucial safety net in case things go wrong against Smart Omega or Twisted Minds in the upper bracket semifinal matchup.
Though often unnoticed, Jaypee “Jaypee” Dela Cruz played a massive role in Team Liquid’s charge, not only being the match MVP in the “Golden Rivalry” matchup but also finishing atop the season’s assists leaderboard with 328.
The Unshakable Cavalry
Game 1 saw Team Liquid endure a difficult early game against ONIC PH, starting at a 0-4 scoreline and a 1,000-gold disadvantage before Teddy’s Harith picked off Savero’s Clint at the seven-minute mark in mid lane, helping KarlTzy’s Suyou secure the third Turtle and cut down the deficit.
Team Liquid began to take control after Brusko’s Grock initiation in a midlane fight around the 10-minute mark backfired, as Sanford’s Terizla took down K1NGKONG’s Guinevere, opening the door for an uncontested Lord take.
ONIC stalled Game 1, but Team Liquid capitalized on the numbers advantage and closed the game after a double kill from KarlTzy’s Suyou.
KarlTzy powered Team Liquid to a 1-0 match point, earning Game 1 MVP with a 4-1-2 KDA performance.
Game 2 was a different story, where Team Liquid completely overpowered ONIC, not conceding any deaths until the 7-minute mark skirmish at mid lane, where KarlTzy’s Guinevere caught K1NGKONG’s Suyou and Brusko’s Gatotkaca off guard with the Spatial Migration–Violet Requiem combo, before Kirk’s Sora retaliated to eliminate Sanford’s Benedetta.
Jaypee’s Marcel proved to be a constant nuisance, using Framed Moment to slow and immobilize ONIC members, before Sanford delivered a game-winning double kill on Kirk’s Sora and SuperFrince’s Zhuxin during the 13-minute base siege, enabling Team Liquid to close out the series.
Jaypee made his mark with a flawless 2-0-12 KDA as the Cavalry wrapped up a sweep against ONIC PH.
