Every fiery showdown in the Land of Dawn tells two tales, and right now, the hopes of the new generation Hive for making it to the playoffs are dwindling.
With the regular season nearing its end and the stakes at an all-time high, it was confidence and grace under pressure that provided Twisted Minds an edge over AP.Bren.
“Yung Twisted (Minds) medyo malaki confidence ngayon. Ang dami rin namin na-misplace ngayon na hindi naman dapat nangyayari,” assistant coach Jaime “Pakbet” Abalos pointed out.
It’s been a rough season for AP.Bren, sitting at the bottom of the standings with a 1-10 win-loss record, just below Smart Omega (2-10) and Twisted Minds (3-10).
Looking at the bigger picture, AP.Bren’s young guns are chasing the legacy of their predecessors — but how does experience and the weight of expectations shape their journey?
Lacking confidence?
“Iba pa po yung confidence namin sa scrims kaysa sa tournament kasi po hindi po talaga kasi kami ganun maglaro sa stage. Sobrang tapang talaga namin. Kumbaga hindi namin nalalabas yung tunay na laro namin sa stage,” Jefferdson “kkdot” Mogol said, admitting that pressure played a major role in their performance over the course of the season.
Meanwhile, assistant coach Pakbet took the experience gap in facing seasoned pros into account.
“Sobrang nag-upgrade na yung [competitiveness] dito sa Pinas. Sobrang lalakas ng teams. Halos lahat may experience na sa international stage. Lahat nakakapaglaro sa malalaking tournaments. Siguro yun yung nakikita kong factor din sa team kasi sobrang bago namin. Sobrang laki ng confidence ng mga kalaban namin kasi bago nga kami,” Pakbet explained.
