AFTER taking flight in the first week of the MPL Philippines Season 17, Team Falcons are in for a turbulent stretch.
The Falcons brace for two champion squads entering Week 2 of the toughest MLBB tournament in the world when they battle defending MPL PH kings Team Liquid PH and reigning world champions Aurora Gaming PH this weekend inside Victoria Sports Tower in Quezon City.
First up for Team Falcons are the Cavalry who are looking high and mighty after a two-game romp over ‘Rora and Twisted Minds PH in the league opener this Saturday.
A little over 24 hours later and the Falcons are off to a showdown with the Northern Lights, the newly-crowned world champions after an impressive run in the recent M7 World Championships last January.
After stumbling against Team Liquid, Aurora quickly rebounded by whipping Twisted Minds to enter this match with some winning momentum.
The major storyline of Team Falcons this season is the arrival of veteran mid laner Salic “Hadji” Imam from Smart Omega. The question now is whether Falcons’ fortunes will finally change, and if Hadji can fill the gaps the team has long struggled to overcome.
Stepping into the role left by former team captain and midlaner Angelo “Pheww” Arcangel, Hadji provides stability and consistency in the mid lane, evident in his performance last week.
Facing another champion team in ONIC Philippines, Hadji gave fans a glimpse of what he can bring to the table, delivering a flawless 6-0-3 KDA on Kimmy in Game 3 to secure the series win, proving he fits seamlessly into the squad.
But he’s only about to get tested further.
Waiting for him in the Saturday match-up is Alston “Sanji” Pabico for Team Liquid, before he faces another stiff test in the form of Kenneth Carl “Yue” Tadeo when they battle Aurora Gaming to close out the week.
Just how well Hadji, and the rest of Team Falcons will perform in these two games, might just very well show how different this team is after that early exit last season.
