IT'S NOW OFFICIAL!
Esports will now make its inaugural appearance in the national sporting event known as Palarong Pambansa. The Philippine Esports Organization (PESO) made the official announcement on their Facebook page.
In their post it was revealed that esports will be serving as a demonstration sport in the 63rd iteration of the event. PESO will be working closely alongside a Marikina Local Government Unit (LGU) and the Department of Education (DepEd).
So far only one esports title was announced, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
PESO even posted photos, showing Executive Director, Marlon Marcelo, interacting with some of the officials like Marikina Mayor Marcelino Teodoro.
Even The Nationals' Ren Vitug was involved, and Marcelo confirmed that he will be in charge of the said project.
PESO's Palarong Pambansa initiative is different from the controversial E-Palarong Pambansa, which was criticized for its numerous problems.
Due to its issues, E-Palarong Pambansa was defunct and rebranded as "The Bagong Larong Pambansa," which is now being organized by the Philippine National Esports League.
