TRISTAN "YAWI" Cabrera has officially made his highly anticipated return to the MPL Philippines as he joined TNC Pro Team’s clash against the reigning world champions ONIC Philippines on the first day of the MPL Philippines Season 15 at the Green Sun Hotel in Makati City.

The world-class caliber of ONIC Philippines was on full display, denying TNC Pro Team the chance to stage a dramatic reverse sweep and spoiling Yawi’s much-awaited comeback to the local league with a clean 2-0 sweep.

Despite falling short, Yawi still earned recognition from ONIC Philippines’ highly skilled roamer Borris James “Brusko” Parro.

“Palo. Palo pa rin si Yawi,” (He still has it in him.) Brusko said.

The outcome may not have been in his favor, but Yawi was simply grateful to be back in the competitive scene of MPL Philippines.

“Sobrang saya po since gusto kong maglaro dito (MPL Philippines) tapos hindi na po mahirapan yung family ko naman,” (It felt great to once again play in the MPL PH, plus it was also a reliever for my family to be back as well.) Yawi said, grateful to work not too far from home and reunite with his loved ones.

Yawi also admitted that nothing compares to the excitement of competing in front of a home crowd.

“Although maganda rin, mataas din po yung support nila sa akin sa Indo (Indonesia) naman po, pero syempre iba pag nasa sarili mong bansa ka." (The Indonesian crowd has always been extremely supportive, but nothing compares to playing in home soil).

Yawi’s journey with Team Liquid ID opened doors for personal and professional growth, shaping him into a player ready to push beyond his limits.

Aggressive, explosive, and bold are only a few words to describe Yawi’s play style, but this time, he returned with a refined sense of discipline and composure under high-stakes situations.

“Kasi po nung [nasa] ECHO [Philippines] po ako diba, parang sa Pinas, puro trashtalk-an, parang hype. Sigawan laging comms [communication]. Example: Nakaubos kami ng clash, nanalo. Parang huwag puro sigaw. Tuloy-tuloy pa rin yung communication. Hanggang hindi pa tapos game, tapos huwag over-hype."

(Back when I was in ECHO Philippines or when I was in the PH, there were loads of trashtalking for the hype. We'd scream our hearts out during comms (communication). This happens a lot when we win clashes. But then we realize we can't just hype ourselves all the time, we still need to communicate until the game ends) Yawi explained.
