AP.Bren staged a dramatic reverse sweep against Smart Omega, eliminating them from playoff contention and allowing Twisted Minds to clinch the last playoff spot in Week 8 of MPL Philippines Season 15.
The new-generation Hive may already be out of playoff contention, yet they demonstrated significant potential for what they could bring next season with their victory over Smart Omega.
The stakes were high for Smart Omega as they pursued the final playoff berth, while AP.Bren played without any pressure, simply aiming to finish their remaining matches of the season on a positive note.
“Makikita rin naman sa game nila na sobrang natatakot silang gumawa ng play kasi sobrang dikdikan nga yung laban. Kami kasi wala na kaming pressure eh,” head coach Jamie “Pakbet” Abalos said.
“MPL already announced na wala na kami sa playoffs kaya sa amin, gusto lang namin ibigay yung best namin. Tapos nakikita namin na nape-pressure yung Omega. Kaya binibigyan pa namin sila ng pressure para hindi nila masyado makawakan yung lead,” he added.
Though AP.Bren may have crushed Smart Omega’s playoff hopes, empathy continues to shine in these kinds of heartbreaking moments.
“May konting awa rin eh kasi siyempre alam ko yung pakiramdam na ganun kasi gusto ko rin mag-playoffs,” James “JamesPangks” Mendoza expressed.
Meanwhile, AP.Bren’s team captain, Landher “Der” San Gabriel, experienced both emotional empathy and an intense ambition to prove himself in the MPL stage.
“May mga tropa rin kasi ako doon sa Omega. Tsaka, ilang beses na rin ako nakaramdam ng pagkatalo. Kaya medyo naaawa ako. Pero ako kasi sa sarili ko, ayoko rin mapahiya. Pag natalo kami ngayon, parang nakakahiya tignan na maging talunan,” Der expressed.
Big lessons for Big J
Though both squads saw an early end to their campaigns, the lessons they learned along the way may shape their bright future.
“Sa akin sobrang dami kong lessons sa sarili ko kasi first season ko rin naranasan na maging captain. Thankful ako kasi nagtiwala yung mga kakampi ko. Ang pinaka-lesson na natutunan ko sa amin, kailangan talaga mahalin namin isa't isa bago kami mag start sa pangarap na gusto namin,” Omega team captain Jomari “Jowm” Pingol reflected.
