FILIPINO team TNC Pro bowed early but took a big chunk of the prize money in The International on Wednesday at the Key Arena, in Seattle (Thursday Manila time).
For finishing the Professional Dota 2 tournament in the 9th to 12th places after a 0-2 loss to European giants OG, TNC Pro pocketed US$360,000 (around P18 million).
The champion will get US$10 million (around P506 million).
TNC, composed of Theeban "1437" Siva, Carlo "kuku" Palad, Samson "Sam_H" Hidalgo, Timothy "Tims" Randrup and Marc "Raven" Fausto, started the main stage of the tournament in the upper bracket following a great group stage performance before losing to Chinese team LGD.FY that sent the team to the lower brackets.
Execration, another Filipino team, earlier exited the tournament and wound up in 13th to 16th spots. The squad was also defeated by Europeans, Team Secret, in a single elimination match after starting the main stage at the lower brackets.
Even though it played only one game in the main stage, Execration still took home US$120,000 (around P6 million).
The International is an annual Dota 2 tournament featuring 18 of the best teams in the world.
This year’s US$24 million prize pool is the largest in any esports tournament.
