THE Philippine Canoe Kayak Dragonboat team will try to defend its two titles in the 2018 International Canoe Federation Dragon Boat World Championships on September 13-16 in Lake Lanier, Georgia, USA.
The national team eyes to impose its might in the mixed 20-seater 200 meters and 500 meters events, which it ruled in the 2016 edition in Moscow, Russia.
The Philippines will compete against USA, Russia, Hungary, Germany, and France in the 200-meter, 500-meter, and 2000-meter events.
“May mga event kasi doon na defending champion tayo so gusto namin sana na ma-prove pa rin na tayo pa rin ang holder doon sa events na ‘yun,” said national team coach Len Escollantes.
“Ever since nagme-medal talaga tayo sa mga events na ‘yun that’s why tinatry rin namin sumali sa 2000 meters para at least maka-break din sana tayo ng record,” she added.
Mark Jhon Frias, Ojay Fuentes, Hermie Macaranas, Norwell Cajes, John Lester delos Santos, Jordan de Guia, Jonathan Ruz, John Paul Selencio, Roger Kenneth Masbate, Rosalyn Esguerra, Rhea Roa, Christine Mae Talledo, Sharmane Mangilit, Apple Jane Abitona, Raquel Almencion, Lealyn Baligasa, Glaiza Liwag and Maribeth Caranto comprise the team.
