THE Philippine Dragon Boat team is set to receive a total of P2.6 million in incentives for winning six gold medals in the 2012 World Dragon Boat Championship in Milan, Italy.
The team, made up of 24 paddlers and two coaches, fell a gold short of completing a sweep of the tournament organized by the International Canoe Federation.
Philippine Sports Commission chairman Richie Garcia said the PSC board readily approved the incentive package for the team a day after the Filipino paddlers topped the 14-nation tournament.
Len Escollante and Manuel Maya is the coach and playing coach, respectively, while Jonne Go is the secretary general of the Philippine Canoe/Kayak Federation.
All the members and coaches will receive P100,000 each.
Members of the team are Arnold Laureno, Manuel Maya, Raquel Espinosa, Mary Neth Bechayda, Josette Deriada, Rolando Isidro, Ricky Sardena, Joseph Magnoa, Edcer Penetrate, Alex Sumagaysay, Alberto Hugo, Noelle Wenceslao, Alex Generalao, Mitchelle Pabulayan, Leonita Banlat, Cieselle Schwandner, Jenevie Manalo, Edward Balbuena, Ric Nacional, Rafael Roniel, Diomedes Manalo, Florence Caro, Ambrosio Gontinas, Dany Funelas, and Calire Montemayor.
The country won in the 10 paddlers all men, mixed 20 (12 men eight women), mixed 10 race, 10 mixed 500 meter, 10-men 2,000-m and the 10-men 500 meter race.
The Filipinos won a silver in the 20 mixed 500-meter race won by Russia.
The team is scheduled to return to the country on Wednesday.
