The Philippine men’s dragon boat team plunge into action as it goes for the country’s first medal Sunday in the 2012 Asian Beach Games being held in Haiyang, China.
The dragon boat team hopes to begin the country’s campaign on a high note as they compete in the men’s 500-meter race at the Jiulong Lake of Zhaohu Mountain National Forest Park.
The men’s team is composed of Jameson Bumahit, Florence Caro, Nelson Cordova, Raquiel Espinosa, Alex Generalo, Ambrocio Gontinas Jr., Alberto Hugo, Rolando Isidro Jr., Hermie Macaranas, Joseph Magno, Diomedes Manalo, Ric Nacional, Ronniel Rafael, Dativo Romares, Ricky Sardena and Alex Sumagaysay.
The 16-man squad will be battling entries from Macao, Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, Indonesia and Vietnam.
The men’s team is part of a lean 33-man Philippine delegation to the third edition of the Games including athletes from beach handball, beach basketball and sport climbing.
The women’s beach handball team competed Saturday but bowed to Jordan, 21-9, in their opening game of the tournament.
