THE Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) is giving the City of Manila until the end of July to decide on the fate of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
PSC chairman William 'Butch' Ramirez said they plan to rehabilitate the Rizal Sports Complex for the country's hosting of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games if an agreement will not be consummated within the next month.
"If the City of Manila cannot consummate or finalize our conversation on our usufruct rights to leave, by July 31, we will start rehabilitating Rizal and Ninoy... Why? For the 2019 Southeast Asian Games," said Ramirez during Friday's press conference.
Legal opinion suggests the City of Manila owns the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, but the PSC has usufruct rights due to the expenses it has spent for the upkeep of the stadium since the government sports agency's inception in 1990.
Reports said the group of ICTSI's Ricky Razon is planning to purchase the land where the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex stands but some of the venues located inside will not be demolished.
Ramirez said the Razon group also plans to rename the sports complex as the Rizal Memorial Park Land, based on information reaching him, although they haven't spoke to anyone from the interested group.
"Hindi naman alam ang plano nila. Kami naman, our only interest on planning to leave is the money that we put into a modern training center," said Ramirez.
