SAN Miguel Corporation has handed out cash incentives to athletes from wushu, karatedo and muay after their impressive showing in international competitions.
Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose Cojuangco Jr. said SMC gave P20,000 to gold, P10,000 to the silver and P5,000 to the bronze-medal winners in international competitions.
Cojuangco hopes the incentives will help spur private sponsorship in Philippine sports.
“I'm sure kapag nakita ng mga donors na napupunta sa tama, madali na silang pakiusapan,” said Cojuangco during POC’s radio program over Sports Radio 918.
Alieson Ken Omengen of wushu and Princess Mae Ylanan of karate will be the big recipients of the incentives following their gold-medal performances in separate international meets.
Omengan captured the gold in the fourth World Wushu Championships in Macau while Ylanan took the mint in the Karate World Cup in Busan, South Korea.
Four muay fighters settled for bronze medals in the World Muay Championships in Russia.
