UNIVERSITY of the Philippines eyes a third straight streetdance championship on Saturday as a part of another big UAAP Season 78 weekend at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The competition actually returned for its third staging last season after it was shelved in 2014, and UP Street did not waste the opportunity to extend its reign.

UP Street blended an array of 90s and current dance mixes with its 'luksong tinik' theme to tally 178 points and claim the bragging rights as the league’s best dance crew last year, besting Company of Ateneo Dancers (167.3) and two-time titlist La Salle Dance Company-Street (167).

With a remarkable mix of hip-hop and electronic dance music, Ateneo achieved its best finish in the four-year competition with a clean routine, while La Salle had an impressive Backstreet Boys-inspired performance.

Adamson's CAST also hopes to compete for the title after barely missing a podium finish by placing fourth last year, along with Far Eastern University Dance Company, UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe and University of the East’s Armada.

National University, which had Underdawgz as its entry in the first four editions, will not compete this season.

The seven-team event will start at 2 p.m. to be aired live on ABS-CBN Sports+Action Channel 23.
