THE Philippines bagged seven gold, four silver, and five bronze medals in the 2021 Polish Open Qualifying Round para dancesports competition in Lomianki, Poland.
Edelyn De Asis led the way for the Philippine team, winning four different categories in the tournament. The medalists advance to the Para Dancesports World Championship in Korea in November.
De Asis won gold medals in the solo women class 2, junior class 1 and 2, and solo women class 2 freestyle, while also teaming up with Julius Jun Obero to take first place in the duo freestyle class 2.
Obero took two more gold medals in his pairing with Rhea Marquez in the combi Latin class 2 and freestyle combi class 2.
Jhona Pena and Joey Maglasang also contributed to the Philippines’ coffers with gold in the duo standard class 2.

De Asis also grabbed a silver in the combi Latin class 2 along with Shaquille Hanz Basan, while Obero also placed second in the solo men’s class 2. Also bagging silver were Christian Apolinario and Jhistine Glyde Baguio in the combi Latin class 1 and Pena and Filemon Baguio II in the freestyle combi class 2.
Anne Charlaine Santos baggd six bronze medals — in the duo Latin class 2 and duo freestyle class 2 with Apolinario; solo women class 2; solo women class 2 freestyle; combi Latin class 2, and freestyle combi class 2 with Jed Villaruel.
Apolinario and Maglasang also took bronze in the solo men’s class 2 freestyle.
Genice Bong Marquez is the head coach of the team, with Tristan Ducay and Roque Marquez serving as assistant coaches.
