THE local government of Quezon City gave away free helmets on Friday ahead of the implementation of an ordinance penalizing cyclists who do not wear one.
In its Facebook page, the Quezon City LGU showed its officials distributing helmets to bicycle riders, giving priority to senior citizens and the indigent.
Beginning on October 15, Ordinance No. SP-2942 which states that cyclists are required to wear a helmet while in the city, will be taking effect.

Quezon City has also recently opened bike lanes in some major thoroughfares in the city.
A penalty of P1,000 for first offenders, and P3,000 and P5,000 for second and third offenders, respectively, will be handed out to riders caught not wearing a helmet inside Quezon City.
