THE winner of the 7th Le Tour de Filipinas could be headed to the Grand Tours someday.
Kazakh rider Oleg Zemlyakov is riding his final year with Vino 4-Ever SKO before joining the pool of talented riders at Astana.
Astana participates in races of different levels around the world and its Pro Team is one of the strongest, in 2009 boasting Lance Armstrong and Alberto Contador in its Tour de France lineup. Zemlyakov is now listed as a rider for the Astana Pro Team for 2017 on procyclingstats.com.
Just a year after winning the Best Young Rider award, the 22-year-old Zemlyakov captured the overall title in Le Tour de Filipinas presented by Air21 with an aggregate time of 17 hours, 36 minutes, and 23 seconds.
Team manager Sergey Danniker hopes to someday see his ward in the Tour de France, Giro D'Italia and Vuelta a Espana.
“Maybe. I want,” said Danniker.
For now, Zemlyakov’s squad Vino 4-Ever SKO squad will see action in the Tour de Taiwan which will start on March 6. Danniker said the team will stay in the Albay capital for training before heading to Taiwan.
“We will have training camp here for 10 days because it’s very expensive to fly. Kazakhstan is long distance,” said Danniker.
