JUNREY Navarra won the Larga Pilipinas opening race, ruling the criterium on Saturday morning in Marikina.
The Philippine Navy–Standard Insurance rider showed again he’s more than just a climber as he edged out former Tour champion Macmac Galedo of 7-Eleven Roadbike Philippines.
The 26-year-old Navarra clocked 51 minutes and 7.85 seconds, while Galedo timed 51:7.86.
“Nakapahinga din kami dahil five days kaming walang karera. Pasalamat pa rin ako sa teammates ko kasi na-pace namin ng maayos,” said Navarra.
“Wala naman nung dulo, palo palo langa talaga ako nun kaya kinuha ko na,” he added.
Navarra broke away from the lead group in the final 500 meters to snag the first stage win in the newest cycling spectacle in the country.
Go for Gold’s Luis Krog completed the podium, clocking in 51 minutes and 8.11 seconds as Bordeous (51:8.39) and Bonijoe Martin (51:11.62) finished at fourth and fifth place respectively.
Organizers plan to hold races monthly, and Larga returns for a road race in Pasig on Oct 7.
