BIKERS have been frequenting Tagaytay City once again after it opened its doors to tourists as quarantine restrictions were eased.
Over the past few months, Tagaytay authorities have been very strict in limiting travel in the city, and that includes cyclists, who are being forced to turn around by policemen manning checkpoints entering the scenic area.
But authorities have become less restrictive to access in the city after the province of Cavite was downgraded from general community quarantine (GCQ) to modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) by the government.
Some are wondering what to expect in the ride up the area.
Tagaytay City administrator Gregorio Monreal, in a radio interview, confirmed the city is now open to tourists but are encouraging them to continue practicing minimum health standards like wearing face masks and social distancing.
The prevailing situation now, according to Facebook groups, is that bikers are now being allowed to enter the city through the city's main entry points including Aguinaldo Highway. There are still checkpoints, however, according to some persons posting on Facebook groups, but authorities have become less strict.
Tagaytay is one of the most visited areas by bikers due to its proximity to Metro Manila. The city, which is about 60 kilometers from Kilometer Zero in Luneta Park, attracts cyclists, beginners and veterans alike, due to its climbs aside from its weather and stunning views of Taal Volcano.
Tagaytay mayor Agnes Tolentino recently issued a memorandum on the guidelines during MGCQ. Among those that are now being allowed by the city are property visits, religious and mass gatherings up to 50 percent capacity, restaurants up to 50 percent capacity, and hotels up to 50 percent capacity.
