PSC officials and representatives of LBC and Smart hand Asiad gold medallist Daniel Caluag incentives worth P1.6 million following his heroics in Incheon.

DANIEL Caluag received a total incentive of P1.6 million from the Philippine Sports Commission and the private sector for winning a gold medal for the country in the 17th Asian Games.

Caluag received the check in a ceremony at the PSC office on the day he arrived in Manila following his victory in the BMX competitions that gave the Philippines its first gold in the Asiad.

The Pinoy BMX rider was given P1 million by the PSC by virtue of the Republic Act 9064 that guarantees such incentive for winners of gold medals in the Asian Games.

In addition to the incentive from the government, Caluag also received an additional incentive of P500,000 from telecom giant Smart and P100,00 from LBC.

In a press conference, the Asiad gold medallist said he hopes to be an inspiration to young athletes.

“I want to create hope to all the young athletes out there and continue with their sport,” Caluag said.
