PAUL Wight, or better known as The Big Show, believes the influx of new superstars in the ‘New Era’ of the World Wrestling Entertainment is comparable to the surge of talent in the late nineties when the WWE hit an all-time high in terms of popularity.

Wight said the current era in the WWE is an exciting time for wrestling fans with the entry of new stars in the roster, comparing the new batch of talent to the Attitude Era of the nineties where stars like Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Triple H, and a host of others became household names worldwide.

“It’s funny, I’ve been through the Attitude Era, the Invasion Era, brand splits, and now this New Era, this is an exciting time for sports entertainment. I think probably since the late 1990s, this is the best crop of new superstars that we have,” said the 44-year-old Wight.

Several new superstars have been featured in the WWE recently with the company focusing on having new talent through the NXT shows and the launch of the WWE Performance Center, a training site for current and budding wrestlers under the company.

Wight said he likes the direction of the WWE in bringing in new talent.

“There is a lot of talent in NXT. The women’s division is absolutely amazing. They really changed the entire women’s division. It’s not the Divas anymore. It’s the women’s division,” said Wight.

Recently, the WWE split its roster for its two television shows, Raw and Smackdown, which means certain superstars will perform exclusively for each brand.

Wight said the brand split, in its second reincarnation, will only allow the WWE to reach new heights.

“We got the brand split now, there will be two distinct shows, we have intercompany competition, which is always good, there will be dedicated writing teams for each brand, and you are going to see new superstars getting involved in better angles. We all know that the angles and the superstars that are involved in it makes you reeled into your heart. It is how you make the connection to the WWE Universe,” said Wight.

As for certain wrestlers in the roster, Wight sees big things from the tag team of Enzo and Cass, Baron Corbin, and Finn Balor, while also seeing a lot of potential in the ongoing Cruiserweight Championship tournament.

“I’m seeing big things from Enzo and Cass. They have a huge future ahead of them,” said Wight.

“I really like Corbin a lot. I’ve been to a few of the shows that he is in. Corbin does a lot of things right. He is still green, he still has a long ways to go, but he does little things that seasoned guys know already.”

“We’ve got Finn Balor coming up. It’s going to be an exciting time,” he added.

“It’s actually insane,” said Wight, referring to the Cruiserweight Championship. “And I came from the Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, Chavo Guerrero, Billy Kidman, all of those amazing 190-pound guys back then.”
