Vaugh Donayre's gallant stand falls short as Amir Khan escapes in ONE face-off
Vaughn Donayre fell short in his bid to upset Amir Khan.

SINGAPORE – Vaughn Donayre tapped out on a rear naked choke by Amir Khan in the third and final round of their lightweight bout in ONE: Defending Honor on Friday night at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The Dubai-based Filipino fighter put up a gallant stand but was forced to submit at the 2:22 mark of the third round, after his own kimura bid against Khan in the second round failed.

Khan was finally able to apply enough pressure on his rear naked choke, something he was unable to do in the first round, to beat Donayre for his third successive win in ONE Championship.

“I felt like I was dying. But I rather die in my hometown,” said Khan, referring to Donayre’s kimura in the second round.

With the loss, the 37-year-old Donayre dropped to his third straight defeat in the MMA outfit.

Former UFC fighter Roger Huerta of the US defeated Adrian Pang of Australia via split decision in their lightweight bout - his second win in four ONE Championship matches to end a two-match losing skid.

Japanese fighter Kotetsu Boku also won after Timofey Nastyukhin of Russia injured his foot.

Nastyukhin was carried off on a stretcher at the end of the first round, after his foot buckled with a side hit to the leg of Boku, who took advantage of the injury by attacking the Russian on the ground.

Incredibly, Nastyukhin was able to finish the first round, before doctors deemed him unable to continue the fight.

In women’s action, Tiffany Teo of Singapore beat Walaa Abbas of Egypt in her ONE Championship debut which fell on her 27th birthday, winning via rear naked choke with 4:15 left in the second round.

Michelle Nicolini of Brazil forced Mona Samir of Egypt to tap out after a rear naked choke in her debut.
