A RARE three-on-three  showdown serves as the main event of URCC (Universal Reality Combat Championship) 28: Vindication on November 6 at the Marriot Grand Ballroom.

Team Arvin Chan faces Team Sugar Ray Estroso in a six-man battle royale which the top Filipino mixed martial arts outfit, now on its 14th year, is instituting for the first time as part of its explosive card four weeks from now.

The fight will have all six fighters inside the cage at the same time, with two referees overseeing the action inside and four other outside.

“Basically it’s a three-on-three. Ubusan,” said Alvin Aguilar, the man who founded URCC in 2002, of the unique format for the main event during the press launching of the meet on Monday at the Resorts World Hotel.

“We always come up with the first, and it’s about time that we came up with this to give more fighters a chance,” added Aguilar, who noted the URCC was also the first to stage a first-ever women’s MMA fight in the country.

“There are other formats that we will explore later on. With more formats, there are more opportunities for more fighters.”

The fight card comes in the aftermath of the blockbuster staging of the MMA fight between actors Baron Geisler and Kiko Matos.

Aguilar expects this one to be as highly-successful especially with Team Estroso promising an action-filled fight.

“Mga bro, good luck na lang sa inyo sa November 6. Mag-ensayo kayong maigi at ayusin ninyo ang mga suntok ninyo kasi diyan ako magaling, sa suntunkan,” said Estroso, drawing wild applause from the crowd.

“Yang ang gusto ko. Sabayan tayo. Basagan tayo ng mukha. Walang aatras.”

In explaining the format, Aguilar said should a fighter go down by knockout or submission, the referee will press the buzzer for action in the cage to stop. Fight resumes once the beaten fighter is taken out of the cage.

And in case a mismatch occurs between three fighters against one, the surviving fighter has the option whether to go on or opt out.

In the co-main event, reigning URCC featherweight champion Do Gyeom Lee stakes his title against Filipino Ryan Dela Cruz. The Korean clinched the crown during the 27th edition of the URCC (Rebellion) last April 23 at the expense of Red ‘The Filipino Bolo Punch’ Romero.

Two more featured championship bouts are included in the undercard.

Alvin ‘Kastigo’ Ramirez challenges reigning flyweight king CJ ‘The Golden Boy’ De Tomas, while Geli Bulaong vies for the same weight title in the distaff side against Yan Qi Hui of China.

The finale of Fight Farm, the reality MMA show produced by ABS-CBN Sports, will also be held as part of the undercard.

Red Romero takes on Miguel Mosquera (featherweight), Solomon Dultra battles MJ Abrillo (strawweight), Derex Zamboanga faces Sem Bicaldo (bantamweight), and Arjay Bongala goes up against Rodian Menchavez (bantamweight).
