SINGAPORE—Eduard Folayang bared he’s fully ready for another title shot in ONE Championship against lightweight king Shinya Aoki  on Friday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, especially after battling through doubt during recent downtimes in his mixed martial arts career.

“May mga ups and downs pero ganun naman ang buhay. Kahit naman sa inyo, dumating kayo sa ganung [point sa] buhay,” said Folayang, who owns a 16-5 win-loss record and is riding the crest of a two-fight win streak going to a match against one of the best grapplers in the world in Aoki.

“Magandang story na matapos mo siyang maayos, I’m looking forward na maganda ang resulta para may maganda akong storya na maisulat sa libro ko,” added the 32-year-old fighter.

A three-time gold medalist in wushu at the Southeast Asian Games, Folayang admitted that he had struggled with doubts recently, especially after his stunning knockout loss to Timofey Nastyukhin in ONE FC 23: Warrior’s Way two years ago. But the fighter known as ‘Landslide’ shared that his faith enabled him to overcome his personal struggles.

“May time na parang nagda-doubt ka sa sarili mo kung itutuloy mo pa. Kailangan mo i-overcome ‘yun. Minsan mas mahirap pa ‘yung outcome ng laban kesa sa laban mismo,” said the Baguio native, who trains at Team Lakay.

“I always believe na ‘he who begins a good work in me will complete it.’ Hindi pa ako nako-complete so I always believe in that. Habang may hininga pa tayo, lalaban at lalaban dapat tayo,” added Folayang.

As he competes for a world crown, Folayang believes his time is now as he seeks the biggest win of his MMA career.

“Naniniwala ako na there is a time and a season for everything. May time na nandun ka na pero wala pa rin. I believe ‘yung time na ‘to para sa akin,” said Folayang.
