Perpetual Help eyes double victory in NCAA chess tournament

Perpetual, Arellano dispute seniors title as Junior Altas woodpushers eye title defense

UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help System DALTA shoots for a second straight junior’s title while the Altas and the Arellano University Chiefs dispute the senior’s crown in the NCAA Season 95 chess tournament Saturday at San Beda University in Mendiola, Manila.

Leading the UPHSD junior woodpushers is International Master Eric Labog Jr. together with Ronald Cañino, Chris Aldritz Pondoyo, Christian James Aquino, Jerome Aragones, Aaron Noblijas and Darlyn Villanueva against the Braves at 1 p.m.

The senior’s Altas Chess Team will face off with the Chiefs at 3 p.m.

Perpetual Help is hoping to bring two titles for the Tony Tamayo-owned school in Las Piñas.

Perpetual Help and Arellano arranged a senior’s finals by beating their semifinal opponents with twice-to-beat incentives.

The Altas downed the San Beda Red Chess Team, while the Chiefs won against the last year’s champion College of St. Benilde.

Perpetual Help will lean on players Genesis Borromeo, Carl Zirex Sato, Romeo Canino, John Marzx Anastacio, Lou Anton Rivera, Jerome Junio and Jose Daniel Abucejo against Arellano.
