    IM Paolo Bersamina extends streak to 10 as Letran woodpushers keep lead in NCAA juniors chess

    INTERNATIONAL Master Paolo Bersamina posted his 10th straight victory and Letran downed San Sebastian, 3-1, on Friday to stay in first place in the juniors division of the 90th NCAA chess tournament at the Athletes' Dining Hall of the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

    The 16-year-old Bersamina, has now earned 10 points after missing the Squires’ first five outings as he saw action with the Philippine team in Chess Olympiad in Tromso, Norway last month.

    Letran has 49 points in 15 rounds, one point ahead of La Salle-Greenhills, which edged Arellano University, 2.5-1.5, and five points clear of No. 3 San Beda, which, blanked Jose Rizal University, 4-0.

    In seniors' action, Prince Mark Aquino downed Viejay Porcalla on Board Two as Lyceum drew with Emilio Aguinaldo College and stayed in top with 45 points.

    Jan Francis Mino and John Jasper Lacsamana split the point with Angelo Esteban and Brylle Salcedo on Boards One and Four, respectively.

    EAC’s Macwaine Molina won over Jonathan Jota on Board Three.

    College of St. Benilde had a chance to close in on Lyceum but got stunned by Arellano University, 3.5-.5.

    Kyz Llantada, Carlo Caranyagan and Michael Penero delivered the wins, while Don Tyrone de los Santos halved the point with Prince Reyes on Board Three.
