    Nguyen gains share of lead; So held to a draw

    GM Wesley So drew with defending champion GM Susanto Megaranto of Indonesia, allowing GM Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son of Vietnam to grab a share of first place after the sixth round of the Asian Zone 3.3 Chess Championship on Sunday in Tagaytay City.

    So and Megaranto split the point after 51 moves of a Slav defense, but Nguyen beat Filipino GM Mark Paragua in 28 moves of a Gruenfeld to match So’s  five points.

    Two places in the World Chess Cup in Norway are at stake in the nine-round tournament.

    In other matches, GM Joey Antonio defeated Fide Master Gombosuren Munkhgal of Mongolia to take solo third place with 4.5 points.

    Megaranto, IM Bayarsaikhan Gundavaa of Mongolia, GM Darwin Laylo, GM Cao Sang of Vietnam and IM Nguyen Duc Hoa of Vietnam have four points apiece.

    Paragua, GM Eugene Torre, and eight others have 3.5 points.
