NBA rising star Jordan Clarkson personally met boxing icon Manny Pacquiao late Wednesday night, and curiously, neither talked about basketball nor boxing.
Instead, the two played chess.
The two star athletes played the gentleman’s game at the Forbes mansion of the 36-year-old Pacquiao, where Clarkson proceeded shortly after attending Gilas Pilipinas’ evening practice at the Meralco gym.
The legendary boxer has been hooked to chess of late and is regularly hosting tournaments every night at his mansion which attracts fellow star athletes such as two-time world billiards champion Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes and Ronnie Alcano, and even Asia’s first Grandmaster Eugene Torre.
This one is special though as Pacquiao had Clarkson for his guest. The Los Angeles Lakers sophomore is currently in the country to do endorsement deal with Smart Communications and at the same time, observe Gilas Pilipinas in practice as it gears up for the Fiba-Asia Men’s Championship next month.
Clarkson and Pacquiao sat down for a chess game that lasted for about 20 minutes.
The 23-year-old Fil-Am stayed for about an hour as the legendary boxer, who's also into basketball as playing-coach of Mahindra (formerly KIA Motors) proved to be a gracious host by showing him around the posh mansion.
Patricia Bermudes-Hizon reportedly arranged the meeting between Clarkson and Pacquiao.
The two athletes later had their picture taken together before Clarkson left the place.
