FEU, La Salle take early lead in UAAP chess

FEU, La Salle woodpushers take early lead

REIGNING six-time men’s champion Far Eastern University and defending two-time women's titlist La Salle set the pace in the UAAP Season 75 chess tournament with big wins in the first two rounds over the weekend at the FEU Auditorium.

The Tamaraws came up with a 3-1 opening-round victory against University of the Philippines then scored a 3.5-.5 demolition of National University in the second round.
FEU leads the league with 6.5 points, two points ahead of joint second placers UST, La Salle and Adamson.

After a 3-1 victory over the Archers in the opening round, the Growling Tigers lost 1.5-2.5 to the Falcons.

La Salle rebounded from the first-round setback with a 3.5-.5 thumping of University of the East.

Prior to its win against UST, Adamson settled for a 2-2 draw with UE.

Meanwhile, the Lady Archers registered identical 3.5-.5 victories over Ateneo and NU to grab the early lead with seven points.

The La Salle women’s squad is a point ahead of the Lady Maroons.

The Diliman lady woodpushers routed the Lady Tamaraws, 3.5-.5 and the Lady Falcons, 3-1.

The Lady Bulldogs, who scored a 4-0 shutout win over the Tigresses in the opener, are in third with 4.5 points.
