TAGUM City, Davao - Chesser Daniel Quizon struck two gold medals for his hometown on the last day of the 2016 Batang Pinoy National Championships at the Bulwagang Panlalawigan here.
Quizon, who hails from Dasmarinas, Cavite, topped the boys' 12-under blitz before ruling the standard chess via a tiebreaker in the tournament organized by the Philippine Sports Commission.
The 12-year-old Quizon beat Jasaan, Misamis Oriental's Clyde Harris Saraos and Mark Bacojo of Pasig City.
"My dream is to become a grandmaster," said the Grade 6 student from San Miguel Elementary School.
His fellow Dasmarinas, Cavite ace, Kylen Joy Mordido also bagged two gold medals. Mordido, 14, ruled the 13-17 blitz and standard chess also via tiebreak, besting Cebu City's Glybel Jane Quinanola.
Over at the Rotary Park Gym, Assumption College of Davao scored a three-peat after beating Cebu City, 20-13, in the girls 3x3 basketball.
In the boys' division, Cebu City emerged as champion with a thrilling 17-15 win over Ateneo de Zamboanga.
Meanwhile, Leyte province amassed seven gold medals in wrestling at the Tagum City Trade Center.
The winners were Veronica Ompod (girls’ 40kg), Rachel Claire Bais (girls’ 44kg), Andrea Rowella Abrea (girls’ 51kg), Marielle Jeanna Liwanag (58kg), Angela Alferez (62kg), Ronnel Nerzza (boys’ 35kg) and Francisco Arca (66kg).
