THE University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe hopes to end a long title drought in their bid to capture championship no. 9 that has eluded them in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition.
Since losing the throne in 2007, the team that once dominated the competition has found itself struggling to discover the perfect formula to regain lost glory.
Now this batch of the celebrated Salinggawi hopes to break the dry spell when it plunges into action on December 2.
"Gusto po namin ibalik ang korona sa Espanya. We want to get our ninth championship po this season," said Salinggawi captain Benjo Gutierrez.
For the longest time, Salinggawi has put premium on dance but coach Mark Anthony Chaiwalla said the team has stepped up as far as the other facets of cheerdance are concerned.
"Year after year naman as a dance troupe strength namin is dance," said Chaiwalla.
"But I made sure na mag-upgrade sa ibang technicalities like stunts, pyramids, and tosses. I can say naman na malaki ang inilakas nila sa ibang elements."
So expect a ‘stronger, faster, more technical’ Salinggawi this weekend at the Mall of Asia Arena.
"They can expect Salinggawi's most technical and difficult routine compared to the previous Salinggawi's performance," said Chaiwalla, also a former 'Gawi.
