AFTER skipping last year’s UAAP Cheerdance Competition, the University of the Philippines Pep Squad is hoping to make a resounding return to the mat on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
Gunning for its ninth title, the Diliman-based cheer dancers vowed to uphold the school's proud tradition.
“We won’t do anything less than what they’re expecting from the UP Pep Squad,” said UP Pep Squad team captain Thea Obanil.
“We’ll be showing what UP Pep Squad is all about, what UP Pep Squad has always been showing and that is the best,” she added.
The fifth-year BA Speech Communication student wanted to take the opportunity to thank their supporters who have stayed by their side no matter what happened.
“We just want to show our best, for the UP community, for everyone who supported us, everyone na nandyan lagi na hindi bumitaw sa amin na naniniwala pa rin sa UP Pep Squad,” she said.
Meanwhile, UP Pep Squad’s preparation for the UAAP CDC wasn’t as smooth as its performance. The team had to double its effort after competing in the Cheerleading Championship in Takasaki, Japan last month.
The Diliman-based squad represented the Philippines and won in All Female Team Cheer and bagged the bronze medal in both All Female Group Stunts and Mixed Group Stunts.
“Medyo mahirap, hindi siya ganoon kadali, unlike ‘yung isang competition lang ang pinaghahandaan mo nakatutok doon (ang focus mo),” said UP Pep Squad assistant coach NJ Antonio.
Challenging as it was, trust that the UP Pep Squad is not one to back down from the task. Watch the team prepare for the UAAP Cheerdance Competition here:
