AFTER three seasons of falling short of a podium finish, University of the Philippines Pep Squad hopes to bring the glory back to Diliman.
With only a few days left for the UAAP Season 82 Cheerdance Competition, fans are all hyped up for UP Pep Squad.
Coming off sixth-place finishes the past two years, the UP Pep Squad is expected to make its way back to the top three and even its much-coveted ninth title.
Coach NJ Antonio hopes for a clean and safe run not only for his team but for all the eight participating schools.
“I pray for safety and sana ma-pull off ang routine ng lahat ng teams,” said Antonio during the Cheer Con on September 25 at the MOA Arena.
“And most importantly sa mga atleta sana may matutunan sila sa prosesong dinaanan nila, makilala nila ang mga sarili nila, maging malakas silang mga tao hindi lang physically kundi mentally at emotionally,” he added.
UP Pep Squad is currently tied with University of Santo Tomas Salinggawi Dance Troupe with the most titles with eight titles each.
The last time UP Pep Squad won a title was in 2012 to complete a three-peat success (2010, 2011, 2012) and the team’s last podium finish was in 2015, finishing third next to second placer UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe and champion National University Pep Squad.
UP Pep Squad, which missed the 2016 competition, has a total of 20 podium finishes.
