NATIONAL University Pep Squad coach Ghicka Bernabe played down her team’s success in the UAAP Cheerdance Competition, saying her wards' sacrifices and love for each other are far more important than title.
“Lahat siguro ng mga bata, worth it 'yung pinagpaguran," said Bernabe after the Sampaloc-based cheerdancers won a second straight CDC title, and sixth overall, before a jampacked crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena.

"Marami kaming occasions na na-miss dahil sa pagti-training, marami kaming sinacrifice na event with our families,” said Bernabe. “Ang sinabi ko lang sa kanila, ‘Kailangang maging worth it ‘yung lahat ng mga araw na na-miss nyo with your families.’ Kasi mas masarap umuwi na champion ka."
While NU Pep Squad has become the standard for the UAAP Cheerdance Competition, the outspoken coach said the success was down to hardwork.
“Kahit mag-champion tayo ng paulit-ulit hindi tayo magi-stop na matuto. Hindi tayo magi-stop na mag-training. Mag-strive hard ka sa trabaho mo,” said Bernabe.
“For us championship is just a title pero ‘yung pride and love na ibinibigay namin sa isa’t isa, ‘yun ang nagpapanalo sa amin. Sa amin title is just a title. Mas marami kaming natutunan sa ilang months na magkakasama,” she added.
