NATIONAL University Pep Squad won a silver and a bronze medals, while Miriam College won one bronze in the International Cheer Union (ICU) World Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, Florida.
The two-time UAAP cheerdance titlist NU Pep squad placed second in the all-girls elite behind New Zealand.
“We are very proud of the group. They trained hard to represent the country. We were fortunate to go there,” said Chito Loyzaga, the newly-appointed athletic director of NU, noting that
NU also landed third in the co-ed elite behind Mexico and Chile, and Miriam College won bronze in team cheer hip hop behind United States and Japan.
“It wouldn’t have happened if not for the support of the NU leadership particularly Mr. Hans Sy,” Loyzaga said, noting that simply making it to the podium in an international event is a huge accomplishment.
“I’m sure the university will prepare something special for them when they return. During the send-off, we told them we are already proud of them by just representing the school and country,” Loyzaga said.
