FROM a fifth place finish in last year’s contest, University of the East aim for nothing less than a top three spot in the UAAP Season 80 Cheerdance Competition.

The Recto-based cheerdancers have grown stronger and wiser after a couple of setbacks in their previous performances. And with their improved showing last season, UE Pep Squad coach Dico Ili is confident they will move even higher this year.

“Definitely we will rise,” said Ili. “We will rise from what we have been doing every time, just like every year alam naman we falter, nagkakamali at nahihirapan kami.”

“But this time, we will rise and we will show them that this is a stronger and more powerful UE Pep Squad,” he added. “This year we really strived harder to perfect kung ano ang mga nakulangan namin last year.”

For UE Pep Squad team captain Jerome Martin Montenegro, National University remains the team to watch but his squad are aiming to join the ranks of teams to watch.

“Gusto ko rin na abangan kami ngayong taon, ‘yun ‘yung gusto kong makita sa amin ng ibang tao na hindi lang kami underdog before pero ngayong taon lalaban at lalaban kami,” he said.

UE Pep Squad will try to reach for its goal on Saturday at the MOA Arena.
