NU Pep Squad not threatened by UP comeback in UAAP Cheerdance, says coach
The NU Pep Squad has ruled the UAAP Cheerdance Competition the past four years but face a tough task for a five-peat with the return of the UP Pep Squad.

NATIONAL University is more than excited to welcome back eight-time champion University of the Philippines on the mat after a one-year absence as the reigning champions seek a fifth straight title in the UAAP Season 80 Cheerdance Competition.

The much-awaited annual cheerdance competition, which will be held on December 2 at the MOA Arena, got more exciting with a title-hungry UP Pep Squad returning to the competition they last ruled in 2012 before the NU Pep Squad won the last four years.

“Honestly, it’s just the same, we are happy na makabalik sila,” said NU Pep Squad coach Ghicka Bernabe. “We are excited mas maganda pa rin kung kumpleto, masarap sila i-welcome ulit.”

While other teams prepared for the UAAP cheerdance wars, the UP Pep Squad stayed sharp and saw action in the Cheerleading Championship in Takasaki, Japan last month.

The Diliman-based squad represented the Philippines and won in All Female Team Cheer and bagged the bronze medal in both All Female Group Stunts and Mixed Group Stunts.

Bernabe, however, is not threatened at all.

“Maganda kasi galing sila sa competition kasi naging maganda ang training nila,” she said.

“Kami sa NU Pep Squad, hindi kami papaapekto. We are just very happy and excited to see them again.”
