PERPETUAL Help regained the NCAA cheerleading title, pulling off a fairly clean routine on Tuesday at the MOA Arena.
The Perps Squad, who finished second last year, had a solid performance and suffered some slip-ups only towards the end, when they failed to hold a pyramid.
Perpetual Help bagged its ninth title overall in the 12-year competition,
The Perps Squad got 195 points, while Arellano University was given a 193 and EAC was a distant third at 145.
“The last part was a rewind pyramid, it was an all-male pyramid na hindi talaga siya pakung-pako na tapos nagulat ako after hitting the whole routine ’yun pa ’yung bumigay,” said Perps Squad coach Ruf Vandolph Rosario.
“When I saw the failed pyramid naloka ako talaga,” he added.
“After noong fall namin nagkaroon ako ng doubt na magchampion and even the other coaches, because there are other cheerleading coaches here, sinabi nila na, ‘pipirma na lang hindi pa umabot.’”
Jose Rizal University placed fourth (131.5), last year’s ninth placer San Beda College made a huge jump to fifth spot (126), followed by Lyceum (123.5), College of St. Benilde (121) and Letran (99.5).
San Sebastian didn’t join the competition for the second straight season.
